I'm excited to see this site pop up: http://www.twohundredsitups.com. I did 40 situps as my baseline test tonight and look forward to seeing how I improve over the next six weeks! (Perhaps I should've done this yesterday, before a pilates class this morning!).
This guy also has a neato push-ups challenge, but I need to work up to that (and I really want to focus on my core right now).

Handy web sites!
To kick off the new year, thought I'd post some of my favorite web sites in this delightful journey to lose weight... ;)
My latest handy site is walkertracker.com - it's a free site for walkers to track their steps. All kinds of geeky graphs and other tools in there too. Neat-o!
I've posted before about these other two, but I still love 'em. physicsdiet.com is *the* site for tracking your weight. It's extra-uber-geeky with the trends and statistics, and really helps show you that one day's weight isn't the end of the world. It's all about the trends, baby.
And of course, can't post this without including sparkpeople.com - I use it daily to track my food intake and also my exercise.
I haven't gotten into the "community" aspects of any of these sites, but just for sheer functionality, they're all at the top of my list.

physicsdiet.com
I'm a total numbers geek (though I hated statistics class in college). When I heard about physicsdiet.com I was intrigued. You enter in your weight, calories consumed and calories burned each day, and then it gets with the geeky - calculating all kinds of averages and rolling figures and such. It really helps to show you the trends - and to show you to not jump off a ledge if your scale shows a 2 pound gain overnight.
I know there's a lot of discussion about how often one should jump on a scale. I do it every single day, in the morning before I shower, before I eat or drink anything. For me, I need that daily feedback - and physicsdiet.com really helps to show me the trends and to not obsess about one day's numbers.
It's free - check it out!

SparkPeople
So how have I lost the weight so far? I lost about 5 pounds before Thanksgiving last year, and then we started a Weight Watchers at Work group. The same day I started WW, I joined SparkPeople.com.

(I don't get any money for linking to them, but thought I'd post a link anyway.)
Weight Watchers has online tools but they charge extra for them... and SparkPeople is free. So I started entering everything I ate into SP's web site to track my calories. I also keep an eye on my fat, protein and fiber, but calories are the biggest thing for me.
I didn't continue with WW because it just didn't enthuse me (the meetings weren't my style), but I've kept on using SparkPeople every single day. Some days, it really sucks (the whole month of December, for example!), but using it every day does help keep me accountable - and educated.
I also enter in my exercise, but I don't do enough of the exercise these days with the cold miserable weather. Hopefully I'll get better about that!
